I think the idea comes from a good place, trying to find new ways to support the content creators for their game.
I also think its better than just having it as paid dlc.
I guess it depends on what the unlock actually is: If its just a purple reskin like in this case i dont think its that big of an issue, people would get it more so to support some streamers they like, and in no way you’re forced to get it.
Now if this was an unique cosmetic/unlock, i would be heavily against this approach.
Will have to see how it plays out i guess, but those are my initial thoughts.
First of all, I wanna say how grateful I am having a big Hitman streamer respond; really means a lot. I’m honestly not completely against your perspective on the matter, and the response you gave is pretty much what I expected – Caution and trepidation to see how things play out.
Part of the problem I have with this logic is that some players are completionists, this community more than most as I’ve discovered. I dunno, Might be because challenges with unlocks on an already fairly niche genre means that players tend to care more about that sort of thing. Just a theory.
FOMO, as I’m sure you know, plays on that need to have everything, and the “you’re not forced to get it” line has been used by defenders in other games to justify those cosmetics for a long time now (Skins in Battle Passes, twitch drops etc.), I don’t think the whole reasoning holds up that well. Heck, people like @Heisenberg fully admitted to getting it solely for their collection, even if they’re not too happy about doing so.
I dunno, just my thoughts on the matter, as I’ve played a lot of Live Service games (Literally started Marvel Rivals three days ago, and I was a little surprised by how little cage-rattling of my FOMO senses it did).
Again, really appreciate the response and two-cents on the matter!
Also, something that just came to mind: These sorts of subscriber drops would be more acceptable if these were actually branded with a specific streamers’ logo or something, instead of being purple reskins, which are generic by comparison.
At least then it’d give more credence to the “support the creator” side of things.
I guess i view it more as encouraging players to support their favorite streamer and getting a little something in return, rather than using fomo to force them into buying something they dont really want.
Like i mentioned, it would be terrible if it were unique cosmetics/unlocks, in which case fomo would hit alot harder, and i would be against it. Truly hope it never comes to this.
Reading some comments regarding this, perhaps it would help some people if these cosmetics would return as a dlc every 3 months or so, so completionists would have an option between paying IO directly, or supporting a streamer. I dont know.
This isn’t completely unusual in some games either; Hogwarts Legacy did this after a few months, and made their twitch drops free as I recall too, not a paid DLC.
I think also part of the “issue” with this item rollout is that it’s coming so late into HITMAN 3/ WOA’s run, where most of us already have unlocked everything there is to unlock, we’ve got plenty of barbie clothes suits to dress up 47 in, and honestly have started to scrape the bottom of the existing content barrel this year with unlocks of miscellaneous items from the main game getting added to our permanent inventories.
So, when it comes to new content, new unlocks, and particularly suits to diversify 47’s wardrobe with, I think a lot of us just feel kinda starved for anything in terms of content this late into the game’s lifespan. We’ll grab at anything, kind of, just to keep that rewarding feeling of unlocks going.
Free recycled items from the main game (like the damn Pinot Noir for some reason), sure! Gimme! DLC suits and cosmetics? Yeah sure! More variety! Paid limited-time promotion on a separate streaming website?? Uhhh, sure? I guess? Now it’s getting a little too specific and stingy…
So, yeah, it’s probably partly due to how late this FOMO promo is entering the game, and also due to how sparse and “rewarding” getting new items for WOA is these days…
Honestly, the thing that really irks me is the motivation behind it. Wanting to reward some of the people that regularly stream their game.
If they really wanted to reward them, pick some people and sponsor them to play the game (even though they probably would anyway) and use your own money to do it. Don’t ask other players to be the ones to front up the cash and then want to take the credit of “yeah… we made that happen”.

Agreed. Oh, it annoys me so much that I’m forever locked out of those ET exclusive coins even though I played HITMAN 2016 Elusive Targets and got SA, but the only time you’re eligible to get them is IF you played them during their original activations. Can’t do anything with the fact that I couldn’t afford a console until 2017 when I saved up enough…
But yeah, I do hope that they rethink this idea. I may decide to support my favourite streamers, but again, I don’t want to enable what I firmly believe isn’t a good tactic.
I have some questions regarding tomorrow’s drop since I’m absolutely clueless about twitch:
Do I have to sub to the channel while they are streaming the game?
Any channel with the normal drops enabled should work for the paid drop aswell, righ?
When I go into a stream I get this:
On the right there is the normal “subscribe” option and on the left there is a “give a subscription” option, which I don’t know what it means but from what I saw it seems to be a one time payment that doesn’t renew automatically. Will either one work for the drop or does it only work with the normal subscription option?
Can I cancel the subscription once I get the drop? I don’t want to get charged every month for it.
Will the streamer get the money even if I cancel the subscription afterwards? Even though I don’t like the idea of paid drops I don’t want to be a douche either. The streamers don’t have the fault of IO’s horrible decisions, so I don’t want to give money to them just to take it away from them shortly after.
Yes, the channel needs to be streaming Hitman World of Assassination;
The streamer can opt out of the drops campaign so their stream won’t have any reward, if the channel is participating you will see a notification on the chat about the drops. I don’t know if a channel can choose wich drops their stream will be rewarding but if that is the case, you will be able to check wich drops are available on that specific stream;
The option on the left is for giving the subscription for another person, you will still receive the twitch drop. It won’t renew after a month so you don’t need to worry;
If you purchase the subscription for yourself you can cancel it at any time without consequences;
The streamers get their share of the money even if you cancel it afterwards.

My thought after seeing the full 4 min trailer. Was some similarity with the Lust deadly sin mission. While it sounds crazy, with all the clones in this new mission with JCVD. When playing Lust, one challenge is eliminating all the pretenders
So eliminating all the clones is just reasonating in my mind for some reason.
Overall After the Connor McGreggor law issue and his removal from the game, this is a nice rebound for ioi.
8 years of playing this Build since 2016 and to Still have content is incredible.
But I’m ready, for the Pack for this Splitter, Twitch is ready.
